Salt air

Why coastal units die young

Salt-laden air eats aluminium fins and copper tube from the outside in. Close to open water a condenser can lose years of life to corrosion while the compressor is still fine.

Our check asks three questions and tells you where your unit sits on that scale — and what actually helps.

Questions

Before you call

Why do outdoor units rust out faster near the water?

Salt in the air settles on the coil and eats the fins and tubing. Our salt-air page rates your exposure and lists what actually slows it down.

Is a coated coil worth paying for?

Within about a mile of open water, usually yes. Further inland it matters less than rinsing and keeping the unit clear.

The house is cold but still feels damp. Why?

Run time. An oversized system cools quickly and stops before it has pulled moisture out of the air.

My unit was under water after a storm. Can I switch it on?

Not until someone checks it. Water gets into the compressor terminals and controls; we inspect before anything is restarted.

Do you work on commercial buildings?

Yes. Offices, clinics, marine businesses, storage and light industrial, with planned maintenance and a record per unit.

Will I get a price before work starts?

Yes. Repairs are priced in writing after diagnosis, and replacements are proposed in writing.
